Research on the Power of the Table

Children who experience life around the table…

  • …are healthier physically

  • …get better grades

  • …are healthier emotionally

The #1 deterrent to your children smoking, drinking, doing drugs, engaging in pre-marital sex and gang involvement is family dinners at least five nights a week.

The Challenge

Try to schedule “The Convivium” at least one evening this week

Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

Revelation 3:20

Discussion Questions

  1. Think of one of your most meaningful dinners as a child or adult. What was at the table? Was it a special occasion? What were you eating? Are there any common characteristics among your experiences of family dinners?

  2. How many dinners do you share with family and friends in an average week? Are you satisfied with this number? What are the causes of your successes or struggles in this area?

  3. The Hebrew Day Planner requires that everyone (adults and children) finish work by 6:00pm. If you eliminated all office work, schoolwork and housework, what are the top three things you envision doing with your free time after dinner?

  4. Identify one personal action step you can take toward adopting a life of real simplicity.
