One Life Transformed: Durga’s Story of Hope and Purpose

When Durga arrived at New Life as an eight-year-old orphan, she had no idea what God had in store for her life.

She grew up, graduated from high school, and started a family of her own. Today, she and her husband are raising two children together — and like so many families, they've faced seasons when making ends meet felt uncertain.

But Durga didn't give up. She took a courageous step and applied for a low-interest microfinance loan — a resource made available to mothers and widows through a program Westside Global Impact supports. With that loan, she purchased a sewing machine. It might seem like a small thing, but it was anything but. Durga had first learned to sew as a little girl at our One Life center, and now, years later, that same skill is helping her provide for her family.

Her story has come full circle in the most beautiful way.

Today, Durga volunteers at the One Life Upmaka Care Center — the very kind of place that once shaped her. She helps children with their homework. She serves them meals. She shows up for them, just as someone once showed up for her.

This is what One Life is about. It's not just meeting needs in the moment — it's investing in people whose lives then become an investment in others. Durga is proof that the love poured into a child doesn't stop with that child. It multiplies.
